About Women and Men’s Ministry
Our Men’s and Women’s groups are a great way for people to get to know each other in a small group setting, to laugh, pray, work, and grow together in faith. Both groups meet regularly at the church or via Zoom.
On every fifth Sunday of the month, the Men’s and Women’s Ministry members wear their special ties and sashes, sit together in the congregation, and assist with the service that week.
Women’s Ministry
Our Women’s Ministry is a vibrant community within our church dedicated to empowering and uplifting women in their faith journey. We believe in fostering connections, providing spiritual growth opportunities, and creating a supportive environment where women can thrive. Through various events and gatherings, we seek to enrich the lives of women of all ages and backgrounds.
Events and Activities
Prayer Breakfast: Start your day off right by joining us for our Prayer Breakfast in the spring. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with God and each other as we lift our joys, concerns, and praises in prayer.
Tea Party: Our annual themed Tea Party gives us a chance to socialize, dress up, and come together in faith.
Meetings and Craft Nights: Unleash your creativity and enjoy fellowship with other women at our craft nights while we discuss new events. Whether crafting, cooking, or simply spending time together, these gatherings provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere to connect with others and build friendships.
Women’s Retreat: Once a year, we collaborate with other women’s groups to host a special retreat designed specifically for women in faith. These events feature dynamic speakers, engaging workshops, and meaningful worship experiences. It’s a time to be refreshed, renewed, and inspired in your faith journey.
Men’s Ministry
At Nativity, Malvern, our Men’s Ministry is dedicated to empowering men to grow spiritually, build meaningful relationships, and serve our community with strength and integrity. Join us as we journey together in faith and pursue God’s calling for our lives.
Events and Activities
Special Men’s Ministry Events/Dinners: This is a time for men to come together and lead events, host dinners, and dive into God’s Word. Many events feature dynamic speakers, engaging workshops, fundraisers, and meaningful worship experiences.
Sport Game Trips: Calling all sports enthusiasts! We take our church youth and parents to annual baseball games and other sporting events. This is a great opportunity to connect with other parents, be mentors to our youth, and have some fun together.
Members’ Ministry
We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to make Nativity, Malvern your spiritual home. Our Members Ministry is here to help you navigate your journey whether as a new member, long-time member, or long time returning church member. They provide you with the support, resources, and community you need to grow in your faith and feel connected to our church family.
Recent Initiatives
Buddy System: As a new member, we want you to feel welcomed and supported from day one. That’s why we offer a buddy system where you’ll be paired with a seasoned member of our church who can serve as your guide and mentor. Your buddy will be there to answer questions, introduce you to others, and help you get plugged into the various ministries and activities of our church.
Connecting with Shut-in members: The members’ ministry made a strong effort to continue to communicate with those who were sick and shut-in: who are unable to physically come to church on Sundays. We provide an inclusive ministry that makes all members feel included in our church community.
Coffee Hour Round Tables: Get to know your fellow new members and church leaders at our Round Tables held monthly. These casual gatherings after the service provide an opportunity to connect with others who are on a similar journey and to build relationships that will last a lifetime. Plus, you’ll enjoy delicious food and great conversation!
Community Outings: Everything from games night to bowling, to family picnics, we want you to feel like you are a part of a community that understands connection!
Lunch & Learns: These quarterly gatherings during coffee hour are special small events, often with panel speakers to teach our members crucial information about their spiritual, physical or financial wellbeing. This provides an opportunity to learn new things, with a safe space to ask questions and connect with others who are on a similar spiritual journey. These are often in collaboration with the Stewardship team.
Music Ministry
We are a singing congregation; we sing seven to nine hymns on most Sunday mornings. Many of our hymns are traditional Anglican hymns, but we draw on diverse musical traditions to round out our services.
Our choir leads the music at our 10 a.m. Sunday service and at special services throughout the year. The choir is usually accompanied by music on the organ, but we also regularly use our grand piano and keyboard to suit the nature of the songs we’re singing.
The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30 p.m. We are always looking for new members. There are no auditions; while prior experience and music-reading ability are helpful, they’re not necessary. Singers should feel confident about carrying a tune and be able to match a pitch played on the organ.
If you’re interested in joining the choir, please speak to our Organist, Nigel Worrel, or the Choir Representative, Arlene.
A Praise Band joins us for the Praise and Worship service on the 3rd Sunday of each month, and our Praise Team takes over for the choir. On occasion, our youth steelpan group, the Nativity Steel Angels, provides some of the music for our services.
Church School
Church School takes place during our 10 a.m. service on Sunday mornings when children aged 3-12 gather together in the Parish Hall with our church school coordinator and teachers.
Our curriculum, Seasons of the Spirit, is used by many Anglican churches and other Christians. The children hear the same Bible readings as the adults and get to know the whole sweep of the story of Scripture, while special seasons of the Christian year are emphasized. Crafts and other activities help the children remember the story and highlight the lesson.
On the first Sunday of each month, the kids and teachers join us for worship and help to lead the service by participating in readings and helping the sidespeople with their duties.
Our goal for our young people is to know God and love Jesus, to explore the mysteries of faith, and to be able to talk about things that matter – the world and how we are meant to live in it. A highlight of the year is our children’s Christmas party, with crafts, a dramatization of the Christmas story, and, of course, a visit from Father Christmas!
What about toddlers?
Younger children are invited to be with their parents in church or our “overflow room,” which is set up as a parent-supervised nursery. The overflow room is located at the back of the Sanctuary. It has windows that let parents see and hear the worship while giving their kids the freedom to move around and make noise.
Ignite/Youth Ministry
Ignite/Youth Ministry (Youth Group) gives young people aged 12 -18 the chance to gather for conversation about faith, family, and their place in the world. Some of our Friday nights together are for learning and growth, and others are all about fun. Occasional trips to the movies or other activities help to liven things up, while the times we come together to help around the church keep us rooted in our community and help our youth stay connected with adults who care for and support them.
We strive to support all our young people in developing to their full potential and are in awe of how much we learn from them along the way!
The Church of the Nativity, Malvern is hosting the 2024 Fall block Ignite evening program from September 18 – October 23 every Wednesday from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Learn more about this program in our latest Ignite blog post.
Young Adults Ministry
Young Adult Ministry is new at the Church of the Nativity, Malvern, which was brought forward to bring post-secondary students and young adults a safe space to foster connections and community with other young Christians. We are looking for an inspired Young Adult Ministry coordinator who can lead our adults into the next generation of leaders in the church.
